What are digitally printed boxes?

As the name suggests, digitally printing utilises a direct to board printing processes whereby all the colours are generated from cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Unlike more traditional print methods a printing plate is not required and this helps keep the costs down and lends the process to shorter, more varied print runs.

As long as the material and size of the print run remains common the production run can accommodate multiple print variants. Take a shelf ready pack for example – this means that each flavour or SKU within the run can have its own custom printed design. So each SKU benefits from its own profile and character on the shelf. Given the process is full colour the boxes can also benefit from tone work and photo realistic print – something of a benefit when compared to flexo printing boxes for example.
