Following a significant increase in customer demand, Pets Corner, a large pet supplies retail chain, with 150+ stores predominantly dotted across the South of England, required an innovative solution to replace their Polythene plastic carrier bags. Sarcina Packaging were approached to provide a new, more eco-friendly solution that aligned with Pet Corner’s ethos and commitment to reduce their environmental impact.
The challenge
Following a significant increase in customer demand, Pets Corner, a large pet supplies retail chain, with 150+ stores predominantly dotted across the South of England, required an innovative solution to replace their Polythene plastic carrier bags. Sarcina Packaging were approached to provide a new, more eco-friendly solution that aligned with Pet Corner’s ethos and commitment to reduce their environmental impact.
The solution
Sarcina Packaging were able to take Pets Corner’s current carrier bag and provide a solution in the same size, printed in two colours but with powerful environmental credentials. The material that was suggested could be disposed of in any home-composting environment. In modest heat and moisture conditions, 90% of the material will degrade in 80 days, resulting in nothing but a small amount of carbon dioxide and water. The material that was utilised is certified TUV OK HOME compost and to ASTM standards, as well as EN13432
The result
In a short period of time Sarcina Packaging was able to design, provide printed samples, produce and deliver 500,000 home compostable, printed carrier bags that were then distributed to Pets Corner’s nationwide stores. Customer feedback was extremely positive and the bags provided a great talking point in Pet Corner’s wider marketing.
