Correx® Stackable Pick Bins – the right solution for Cloud Fulfilment

Cloud Fulfilment – a successful fulfilment company with over 5000 SKUs required a solution to replace their corrugated pick bins. Coinciding with a move to a new, larger warehouse, Sarcina Packaging were approached to provide a more durable and effective solution to streamline the pick and pack process.

The challenge

The previous cardboard pick bins were proving ineffective due to the weight of material needing to be stored and the rate of pick and pack replenishment. Over a number of months, the cardboard pick bins would succumb to natural deterioration of the fibre board as well as UV and impact damage. As a result, the units – stacked six high onto pallets – would become unstable and need replacing.

The solution

Sarcina Packaging designed and prototyped blue interlocking stackable pick bins from 3.5mm Correx ®. The design allowed each bin to lock together vertically and horizontally, allowing 18 pick bins per pallet location; each with its own dedicated barcode and zone. Sarcina also provided a smaller number of extra-large pick bins for fast moving and bulky items.

The result

With an expected life of five years, the modular pick bins provided the customer with a more durable, lightweight and suitable pick and pack solution. Over the same period, the Correx ® also provided a considerable cost efficiency over the previous cardboard alternative.
